What is the Dubai College entrance assessment?
Dubai College’s Year 7 entrance assessment is one adaptive online test of about two hours in English, mathematics and non-verbal reasoning. It is held at the school, can be sat only once, and for August 2027 entry takes place on Sunday 15 November 2026. The school does not name the test.
What the school says it is
Dubai College describes one adaptive online assessment that takes about two hours, with modules in English, mathematics and non-verbal reasoning. For entry in August 2027 it is held at the school on Sunday 15 November 2026, and the school provides all the equipment. A child may sit it only once.
What does it cover?
- English. The school lists English as a module and does not publish the question types.
- Mathematics. Likewise a listed module with no published question types.
- Non-verbal reasoning. Questions about shapes and patterns, with no words.
- Arabic A, for some children. Children registered with an Arab nationality, or studying Arabic A by choice, also sit a 45-minute written paper and a spoken assessment.
What is known, and what is not?
The school does not name its test. It says the platform and question style are very similar to standard online tests such as CAT4 and GL Progress Tests, and it will not answer individual requests for more detail about the assessment. Some prep providers report that the test is an adaptive admissions test with four modules including verbal reasoning, with published timings. Those are their reports, not the school’s. We say so wherever we use them, and our full mocks follow the three modules the school itself lists.
How does the school use the result?
The Admissions Panel looks at the assessment alongside the end of Year 5 report, the end of Year 5 GL Progress Test results (or an equivalent such as MAP), the latest CAT4 or standardised results, the optional extra-curricular template and any SEND or medical information. There are 176 Year 7 places for August 2027. For August 2026 entry the school reports more than four applications per place, and more than three in recent years. We found no published pass mark, and we do not predict outcomes.
Should we use a tutor?
The school says it does not endorse tutoring for its entrance assessment. Our view is that practice is useful for one reason only: a child who has met the screen, the timer and the kinds of question can spend their attention on thinking. That is familiarisation, not coaching, and it is all we offer. There is more on pacing in our guide to preparing calmly.
What should a family do now?
- Check the application deadline: noon UAE time on Tuesday 27 October 2026, with no late applications.
- Keep Sunday 15 November 2026 free for the whole day.
- Decide how your child will meet the on-screen format before then, in short sessions.
